Source: History of San Luis Obispo County, California, Oakland, Calif., Thompson & West, 1883, pp 381-385; Pioneer Obituary JAMES WILKS GAYLORD – In December, 1873, James Wilks Gaylord died. He was a member of San Simeon Lodge, which placed on record expressions of appreciation of his many virtues, deploring the loss of a beloved brother with feelings of sincere regret, softened only by the confident hope that his spirit departed from its earthly tabernacle to the mystic lights of the Grand Lodge above, to participate in the companionship of those who, having fought the good fight here below, are enjoying their reward. In token of esteem, the lodge was draped in mourning for thirty days.
