Redlands Daily Facts; 04/05/2008 Josephine "Jo" Dickerson Lines, a longtime resident of Redlands, died March 22 in Redlands of complications from a broken hip. She was 97. She was born June 20, 1910, in Stony Brook, Long Island, N.Y., and was the first child of Nellie O. and Howard E. Dickerson. She attended boarding school in Connecticut and Massachusetts before the family moved in 1928 to Redlands, where she finished high school, graduating from Redlands High School in 1929. She graduated in 1932 from the University of Redlands, where she was a member of Alpha Theta Phi sorority. She was a teacher in Yucaipa and Colton for many years before becoming a social worker. She married Charles E. Lines in 1935 and they had five children, all raised in Redlands. They loved to travel to Mexico and spent their summers in Florence, Ore. Her husband died in 1985, her son Howard in 2002 and her son Stephen in 2003. Her brothers Edward O. Dickerson and Howard E. Dickerson Jr. have also died. Survivors include her daughter Joanne Manchester of Redlands; her sons Robert Lines of Redlands and Douglas Lines of Monroe, Ore.; her sisters Ruth D. Witter of Redlands and Phebe D. Bush of Palo Alto; close friends Linda Nicolet and Anita Rounsavall; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Road, Redlands. Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Alpha Theta Phi Sorority Scholarship Fund at the University of Redlands.
