"Bea" Huettig, a 42-year resident of Redlands and longtime Realtor in Redlands, died of heart failure Feb. 20 at Redlands Community Hospital. She was 96. She was born July 31, 1911, in Edgefield, S.C., and grew up there and in Georgia and Tennessee. She was living in Sumter, S.C., when she met her future husband, H. George Huettig, who was in pilot training at nearby Shaw Field. They were married Oct. 8, 1943, in New York City. While her husband was overseas during World War II, she had her own business and was a radio beauty consultant. She was an Air Force wife and homemaker for 26 years and became a Realtor in 1969 after her husband retired from the Air Force. She was the owner-broker of Pilot Realty in Redlands for 30 years and was one of the few Certified Realtor Brokers in the area. She was also an avid gardener and national flower judge. As a flower arranger and decorator, she loved to use her skills at many weddings and parties for friends and for the Air Force. Memorable occasions she helped with were receptions for the king of Belgium, President Lyndon Johnson and three future Air Force chiefs of staff, Gens. Curtis LeMay, George Blanchard and Michael Ryan. While attending Alan Hancock College in Santa Maria, she designed the first official seal for that city. Her family said she was sympathetic and helpful to her realty clients and her friends, cared about young people and was awarded honorary membership in Delta Kappa Psi sorority at the University of Redlands. Survivors include her husband, H. George Huettig; granddaughter Melissa Goodwin of Redlands; a half brother, Charles Butler Sharpton, and three half sisters living in the Carolinas, Georgia and Louisiana. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Trinity Episcopal Church 419 S. Fourth St., Redlands. Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands is handling arrangements.
