She was a resident of the High Desert for 23 years, and at Hesperia Senior Campus for four years. She was born May 29, 1919, in Chicago, Ill. Berenice was a longtime founding member of Jess Ranch Community Church, and was always doing the Father's work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gray; son, David Smith; and stepson, Mark Gray. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce and her husband, Robert Sims, of Apple Valley; stepsons, Steve and his wife, Jane Gray, of Rancho Cucamonga, Dr. Tom and his wife Dr. Linda Gray, of Tulsa, Okla., and Dr. Ron and his wife, Marilyn Gray, of Mission Viejo; sister, Lorraine Petelle, of Belair Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren who loved her, and knew her as Nonnie. Berenice's wishes were that there be no services.
