All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. "Big Bear Grizzly" Thursday, February 16, 2006 Naomi Conte 88, passed Feb. 5, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nev. Born Oct. 20, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., Naomi was a part-time and full time resident of Big Bear Valley before ill health forced her to move from Mountain Meadows Senior apartments to Las Vegas to be with her son and his family. In the 1930s, Naomi trained as a flight attendant for Pennsylvania Central Airlines. She enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served in naval control towers as an air traffic controller. She was a member of American Legion Post 584 in Big Bear Lake. Naomi was the widow of musician Valdo J. Conte, and is survived by her son Jeffrey Conte Las Vegas. Interment will be private. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her name to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 N. Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203-1977.
