"Big Bear Grizzly"; Date Unknown Bear City Fire mourns loss of long-time engineer Engineer Kirk Bowdridge The Big Bear City Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Fire Engineer Kirk Bowdridge passed away from an apparent heart attack on Jan. 2, at approximately 6 a.m. He was 59 years old. Earlier in the week, Engineer Bowdridge had a heart attack and was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center. He was released Dec. 30 from the hospital with cardiac rehabilitation planned. Bowdridge was employed with Big Bear City Fire Department for more than 23 years. He started as a paid-call fire fighter in 1981 and worked his way up to the rank of engineer. He was hired as a full-time engineer in June 1989 when the department went to full-time status. Prior to his full-time employment with the Fire Department, Bowdridge was employed by Contel Phone Company, which is now Verizon, for 21 years. Bowdridge was a valued member of the Big Bear City Fire Department and "Dad" will sorely be missed by all. Bowdridge is survived by his wife, Diane "Di" McGuire. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Jan. 8, 11 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center. A reception follows in Hofert Hall.
