All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Isaac Jasper PENLAND died at the St. Helena Sanitarium, Thursday, May 28, 1914. He was born in Overton County, Tennessee, April 12, 1837, and when but 9 years of age his parents moved to Missouri and in 1857 crossed the plains in company with the Nunn family. They came direct to Napa Valley and settled near Yountville. There PENLAND went to work for Mr. CROWEY, his uncle. Mr. PENLAND farmed in Knights valley and also in Anderson valley in Mendocino County, but for about fifty years he made his home in Napa County. In 1867 he was married to Susan March. His wife and their children survive him. Mrs. Fred PORTMAN, of Contra Costa County, Mrs. A. RAMASSEAN of Napa, Mrs. George BROWN, of Oakland, George W. , James, Olle and Lona of Oregon, Willis of Kansas, Miss Louise, a trained nurse in S.P.R. R. Hospital in San Francisco, and Miss Elma PENLAND, of Contra Costa County. Mr. PENLAND lived an honest and upright life and was highly esteemed as a citizen. Besides fourteen grandchildren, one brother, Phillip PENLAND, of Vallejo and two half sister of Los Angeles, survive. The funeral took place at 2 pm Saturday, May 30th, from Noble's undertaking parlors.
