They were loosely filed alphabetically and some had consent notes written by parents, guardians, etc. attached to them. A few consent notes were written on the back of old envelopes and one on a piece of brown paper bag. The following records concern the family of Jesus Miranda and his Native American wife Petra, who lived in the Kern River Valley. My notes are in brackets. In the Matter of the Application of Leon Vega For a License to Marry Elvira Miranda State of California}ss County of Kern The undersigned, being first duly sworn, doth depose and say; That he knows the above named Elvira Miranda that she is of the age of 18 years, was born in California and a resident of Weldon, Kern County California, and being sworn deposes and says; That his name is Leon Vega that he is of the age of 25 years, was born in California and a resident of Kernville, Kern County, State of California, and knows of no legal objection to their marriage.
